The second annual Farm Dinner benefiting the Apple Seeds Teaching Farm in Fayetteville took place last month for a sold out capacity of more than 100 guests celebrating the organization’s many educational, farm and edible virtues. The special al fresco dinner featured area chefs Jerrmy Gawthrop, Tammy Varney and yours truly along with talent from local businesses — Mosaic, Bordinos, Pink House Alchemy, Zuppa Zuppa, Liquor World, Black Apple Crossing, Ozark Beer Company and Fossil Cove Brewing Co. — all working collaboratively under a beautiful Ozark autumn night to create a singular food experience. Gawthrop and I worked over a large open fire pit to simultaneously smoke potatoes, roast a plethora of locally grown root vegetables in cast iron, and grill pork loin as a visual centerpiece of sorts for the crowd.
