Field Trips

Our garden-based education extends from schools to our local food community, from rural family farms to urban farmers markets. These exciting excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how food is grown, the care taken to grow and harvest it, and the connection to our own plates and healthy food choices. Students experience harvesting farm-fresh food first-hand, then learn how to prepare a healthy snack from those edibles. It provides opportunity, not only for students to explore and engage the senses, but to also dialogue with local food heroes and farmers themselves.
“I learned that a farmer is also a scientist.”
“I learned that farms are important and I learned that chickens are important."
“I learned to not say something is gross before you even try it.”
“I learned that tomatoes taste like sunshine.”
