“I wish we could get these smoothies in the cafeteria for breakfast!”
This is what we hear from students who participate in Cooking in the Schools.
Cooking in the Schools reaches students where they are --- in the classroom! The 45-minute cooking classes are taught by Apple Seeds staff during the school day. The classes increase nutritional awareness through lessons including sugar reduction and healthier snacking habits. Students love it because they have a chance to make a simple, healthy snack. Teachers love it because it’s easy and engaging. And parents love it because often times their kids will try new foods in this fun & hands-on setting. In fact during 2017, sixty percent of the students reported making the Apple Seeds recipe on their own after the class.
Cooking in the Schools is free and available to elementary and middle schools in Washington and Benton County and is ideal for 3rd
grades. The classes typically take place on Thursdays, but days can be adjusted as needed.
