Our community faces both hunger and obesity. Children in food insecure families are especially vulnerable to obesity due to the additional risk factors associated with poverty. In fact, Arkansas ranks 9th in the nation for childhood obesity with 34% of our youth being overweight or obese. It’s difficult to believe that 49% of Arkansas adolescents report consuming fruits & vegetables less than one time a day. But we know our programs make a difference. They increase students’ consumption of fruits and vegetables, improve attitudes towards healthy food, and heighten their knowledge of nutrition. Giving to Apple Seeds is an investment in our community's future.
