From the Farm...Summer is Here!
The gardens are in full swing at the Teaching Farm! While most of our fall crops bolted in the hotter than usual March heat, our kale is plugging along happily and our summer crops are beginning to bear fruit. Speaking of fruit, we've been picking strawberries and we started to see the first ripe blueberries and raspberries last Friday, just in time for our Food Ambassador program this week!
If you visit us on the farm during the summer months, you'll see progress on our outdoor garden classroom, thanks to the Chobani Foundation and our amazing crew from AmeriCorps NCCC Southwest Region. A high tunnel will be going up as well in the main garden area. This unheated greenhouse (also known as a hoop house) will allow us to extend our growing season throughout the winter.
Who's ready for some January spinach, y'all?
