About Apple Seeds:

Apple Seeds is a nonprofit organization that aims to ignite a lifelong love for fresh foods. Our mission is to inspire healthy living through garden-based education. Apple Seeds offers experiential garden and culinary based education for children in Northwest and Central Arkansas. Apple Seeds launched hands-on programs in Central Arkansas in 2023 and in 2024 reached over 3,800 children. We anticipate continued growth of programs in Central Arkansas each year to reach thousands of additional children in the years to come.

Job Description:

This Program Manager position is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to shape the future of our in-person programs in Central Arkansas. The person in this role will be instrumental in developing systems and building a strong team to expand our reach and impact in the region. The Program Manager will build upon existing frameworks and implement innovative strategies to scale our programming and strengthen our capacity for growth.

The Program Manager oversees and implements educational programs that are engaging, hands-on, and empowering to children throughout the calendar year. Educational programs include school based field trips, in-school programs, and farm to table cooking classes. Through this work, students are inspired to incorporate more nutrient dense foods into their diets and live healthy lives. The individual in this role will lead educational team members in the delivery of these programs.

The Program Manager should anticipate that a significant function of the job is actively teaching and leading students in programs. The person in this role manages program logistics, systems, efficiencies, communications, and budgets needed for program delivery. This individual will supervise staff, interns, and volunteers. The Program Manager is supervised by the Program Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, manage, and implement school year and summer programs to meet established goals

  • Supervise staff, interns, and volunteers leading to the team’s success

  • Facilitate educational programming and manage preparations needed in advance of programs

  • Develop, refine, and enhance systems for programs to lead to growth of program impact and reach

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with school contacts and organization partners

  • Ensure program alignment with intended outcomes; manage survey collection, entry, and analysis

  • Manage budgets and maintain supply inventories needed for educational programs

  • Facilitate the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and scheduling process for staff and interns

  • Identify and implement program improvement opportunities on a regular basis

  • Oversee food safety within programs and train team members on these protocols

    Serve as a role model of Apple Seeds’ mission, standards, and values

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Passion for the mission of Apple Seeds and a commitment to the values of the organization which are respect, belonging, authenticity, engagement, and growth

  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience in education, with preferred additional experience in nutrition or culinary arts

  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience supervising part-time or full-time employees

  • Experience working with children in a positive, fun, and engaging outdoor learning environment

  • Experience working with diverse populations

In addition to the above skills and qualifications, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Entrepreneurial mindset that thrives on the excitement of creating, developing, and establishing systems to support the growth of programs

  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated by success in mentoring, guiding, and providing constructive feedback to individuals and in fostering a strong team environment

  • Excellent organizational skills to coordinate logistics among multiple partners and team members

  • A positive, team-focused, and solutions-oriented attitude with enthusiasm for growing our programs

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of students, teachers, volunteers, community partners, and other stakeholders; experience delivering presentations preferred

  • Experience in creating and tracking budgets

  • Ability to think critically and to effectively address unique problems as they arise

  • Demonstrated experience in lesson and curriculum development

  • Self-motivation and ability to thrive in a rapidly-changing environment, prioritizing tasks efficiently and completing tasks within established timeframes

  • An openness and drive for learning, assessing and improving one’s work, and the ability to hear, reflect upon and implement feedback

  • An energetic personality that thrives leading and exciting students about nutritious foods

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office

  • Proficiency in Spanish language skills preferred

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license

  • Agree to and pass a criminal background check

  • Willingness to work outside in hot and cool conditions and on occasional early mornings and evenings

  • Ability to support program development and implementation, including standing for extended periods, working at a computer for multiple hours, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

  • Ability and willingness to use a personal phone for work-related communications when necessary

Hours:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week

  • The Program Manager will frequently have an adjusted work schedule due to job responsibilities that occur in early mornings or occasionally in the evenings or on weekends. Exact times vary per season and the programs that are scheduled.

Anticipated Start Date: Monday April 28th, 2025

Benefits:

  • Annual salary of $43,000-$60,000

  • Full-time employees are eligible for health insurance after 60 days, with Apple Seeds covering 50% of the premium. Additional family members can be added at extra cost

  • SIMPLE IRA with a 3% employer match

  • Benefits include 15 days of paid vacation/personal leave, 14 days of holiday vacation, and up to 6 days of paid sick leave annually
