Teen Service Learning Program
Welcome to our month-long service learning program, meticulously crafted to involve teenage students in meaningful volunteer service within their community. Through this transformative experience, selected students will actively contribute to addressing food insecurity in Northwest Arkansas via our food donation program, which supplies fresh, nutritious produce cultivated on our teaching farm to students and families in need.
This year, we’re excited to offer two different sessions: one in June and one in July!
Throughout approximately 40 hours in June or July, participants will:
Gain insights into our food donation initiatives tackling food and nutrition insecurity
Hands-on experience in harvesting, weighing, washing, and preparing fruits and vegetables for donation
Contribute to the growth of plants in our garden
Take part in distributing the produce to our partner sites
The program culminates in a reflective and celebratory farm-to-table pizza party, allowing teens to commemorate their meaningful contributions to the community. We're thrilled to offer this program, providing teens with real-world experiences, problem-solving opportunities, skill development, social connections, and a broader perspective.
Under the LEARNS act, each student, starting with 9th graders, must have 75 volunteer hours in order to graduate. These hours would count toward that requirement.
To support the education, mentorship, and skill development integral to this service learning program, a suggested donation of $165-$500 is requested. Upon selection into the program, the listed parent/guardian will receive a notification from Apple Seeds. However, if your family cannot contribute at this time, we still encourage you to apply and be a part of this enriching experience.
